United and Air Canada Announcement

Published on July 4, 2022

As the 2021/22 financial year has drawn to a close, I would like to highlight some of the fantastic things that we have achieved as we rebuild our international and domestic networks.

On the road to BNE’s aviation business recovery, we have maintained strong relationships with our airline partners to support new routes to Brisbane as well as reactivating pre-COVID-19 services.

At the start of June, we were thrilled to welcome United Airlines back to Brisbane. This incredibly exciting announcement sees the world’s second largest airline return to BNE after 27 years. From Friday 28 October, United will commence thrice-weekly, non-stop service to San Francisco.

This will be the first time an US carrier will serve the US Mainland non-stop from Brisbane. United will also take advantage of Virgin Australia’s extensive network, with a codeshare agreement that will provide customers access to almost 100 destinations throughout Australia and the Pacific.

Further strengthening our connections to North America, yesterday we welcomed back Air Canada, restarting its popular non-stop service to Vancouver. With the addition of Air Canada, BNE reported more than 10,000 passengers through our international terminal for the first time since the pandemic.

Our airline partners recognise the immense potential in serving Brisbane.  Not only is BNE the primary gateway to Queensland’s  business and tourism opportunities, but it is also a rapidly growing hub with exceptional connectivity to the Asia/Pacific region.

We should all be proud of what Brisbane Airport has achieved over the past 12 months, and our great work doesn’t stop there. We will continue to work with airlines, government and industry to open up new services to Brisbane.

I will leave you with this recap of the United Airlines announcement.  The video really captures the positive atmosphere of the day and what can be achieved when we collaborate with our various stakeholders.

Throughout the rest of 2022 and into the new year, we look forward to many more exciting announcements like this, as we welcome more airlines and destinations to the BNE family.
