Project Update
This project will upgrade the HV infrastructure, including the design and construction, of a new communication distribution facility at the Airport Intake Substation (AIS). The proposed expansion of the existing AIS switchboard aims to provide increased capacity to support precinct developments and improve network reliability.
To provide some background, BAC owns and operates a private 11kV distribution network across the 2,700-hectare Brisbane airport site. BAC’s private network is connected to the local power authority otherwise known as a Distribution Network Services Provider (DNSP) via three intake substations namely Airport Intake Substation (AIS), Lomandra Drive Intake (LIS) Substation and Pandanus Avenue Intake Substation (PIS).
Airport Intake Substation is located on the Airport Drive side and supplies power to International Terminal Building (ITB), Qantas Zone Substation (QZS, supporting Export Park, Qantas drive buildings), Central Parking Area (CPA), New Parallel Runway (NPR), the Airport Control Tower and the TAAATS buildings.
There is existing telecommunications infrastructure co-located within the Airport Intake Substation building. The existing AIS telecommunications infrastructure is a major distribution node within the wider airport precinct and presently provides connectivity across both terminals including substations and security (CCTV and access control).
