Safety Alert - Recent snake sightings

Published on August 17, 2023

Snake activity at Brisbane Airport is increasing as we move into the warmer months.  Because of this, all staff should maintain a level of awareness when outdoors.  Native snake species such as the dangerously venomous Eastern Brown Snake (pseudonaja textilis) and the Red-Belly Black Snake (pseudechis australis) are common across many areas of Brisbane Airport including:-

  • Carparks
  • Skygate Precinct, including DFO
  • Industrial Areas
  • Airfield and terminal exterior
  • Grassed and landscaped areas

Under no circumstances should any person attempt to approach a snake, regardless if they believe it to be harmless or otherwise.

If a snake is found in an area that will continue to place anyone at risk, please take following steps.

  • Stop work and evacuate the immediate area
  • Warn other persons in the area of the snake’s presence
  • Contact a professional snake relocator, such as:
    • Brisbane Snake Removal Services – 0409 675 522
    • Biodiversity Australia – 1300 319 954

If possible, try to maintain visual contact with the snake so the snake handler can easily locate it for capture and removal.
